PAPERWISE CO2-NEUTRAL 3RD YEAR IN A ROW

In order to minimize the effects of climate change and global warming, CO2-reduction is essential. PaperWise is produced using green energy whenever possible, but we have to deal with unavoidable CO2 emissions throughout the chain. Even though PaperWise is produced with green energy whenever possible, we still have to deal with unavoidable CO2-emissions throughout the chain. For the 3rd year in a row, PaperWise fully compensates for CO2-emissions, measured across the entire production chain. PaperWise has joined the United Nations Carbon Offset Platform for this purpose.

UNITED NATIONS CARBON OFFSET PLATFORM

This platform features UNFCCC certified projects that reduce, avoid or remove greenhouse gas emissions from the atmosphere. The projects are implemented in developing countries and are rewarded with Certified Emission Reductions (CERs; carbon offset measured in tonnes of CO2 equivalent). In recent years, PaperWise has offset a total equivalent of more than 4700 tons of CO2. The contributions for this CO2 offsetting have fully benefited green projects.

A part of this, for example, was spent on wind energy projects in the region in India where PaperWise is produced. For this purpose, 15 wind turbine generators are being installed in the state of Tamil Nadu. The aim is to generate electricity from renewable, clean, wind energy without any associated greenhouse gas emissions. If the wind farm were not installed, an equivalent amount of electricity would be generated from the connected fossil fuel-based power stations. By investing in these wind turbine generators, electricity is generated from wind and thus greenhouse gas emissions are reduced. Using natural wind as a renewable energy source therefore provides clean energy without negative consequences for the health of the local community or local biological life.

The land purchased for the wind farms is mostly non arable and sparsely inhabited areas. On a social and economic level, the project contributes to the development of supporting infrastructure. Including a road network at the wind farm location, to which access is also granted to the local population. The project also provides employment opportunities to skilled and unskilled manpower.
