More than 2 years of development preceded this: lightweight PaperWise corrugated paperboard and corrugated paper from agricultural waste. We are proud that, in collaboration with Pillopak, part of the Palm Packaging Group, we have succeeded in processing sustainable PaperWise paper and paperboard into micro-corrugated paperboard and corrugated paper. With this, we are responding to market demand for sustainable packaging that is not only environmentally friendly but also very lightweight and strong.
Wide range of CO2 neutral, tree-free corrugated paperboard
The number of applications for PaperWise corrugated paperboard is infinite. Thanks to Pillopak, a very wide range of PaperWise paper types can be processed. From 45-gram paper to 150-gram paperboard, where layers are combined to build the corrugated paperboard. All PaperWise paper and paperboard types are CO2 neutral, tree-free, and made from plant residues left over from agriculture. Add specific properties such as moisture resistance, grease resistance, compostability, and suitability for direct food contact, and you can imagine that there is great interest in PaperWise paper from both the food and non-food sectors.
Applications of sustainable corrugated paperboard packaging
Several types of corrugated paperboard have already been made from sustainable PaperWise paper. We are initially focusing on E and F micro-flute, as this corrugated paperboard can be used very widely for primary consumer packaging. This includes fruit and vegetable packaging, cake and biscuit packaging, gift packaging, cosmetic packaging, soap packaging, electronics packaging, shipping packaging, as well as packaging for heavier consumer products or packaging for responsible toys, displays, and point-of-sale material. Super lightweight, extra strong, and a beautiful appearance (directly printable)
PaperWise Natural Microflute E-flute 70/90/70 g/m² has a weight of 255 g/m² and a thickness of 1.4 mm. If we compare this to PaperWise Natural 295 grams, our bestseller, the weight decreases by 13.5%, while the material is 200% thicker and becomes more than 300% stronger (measured perpendicular to the direction of the flute). Especially for customers who want a smooth, even surface on the outside of the packaging for appearance, a second variant was also developed during the introduction of this sustainable innovation: PaperWise Natural Microflute F-flute 70/90/150 g/m². This PaperWise Natural Microflute F-flute has a weight of 335 g/m² and a thickness of 0.9 mm, allowing many offset printing presses to print the corrugated paperboard sheets directly in full color, so no separate layer of paper needs to be laminated onto the corrugated paperboard. A saving in costs and material.

Prices for sustainable PaperWise corrugated paperboard depend on the number of packages, the printing, and the version you wish to obtain. Initial calculations show that sustainable PaperWise Natural Microflute corrugated paperboard has a price point only a few euro cents higher than packaging made from PaperWise Natural 295 grams.
